Arkansas State Capitol with holiday lights
During the past eight months, the COVID-19 pandemic has forced many traditions to be canceled for 2020. The Capitol Lighting Ceremony is the latest victim to this trend.
The Arkansas Secretary of State’s Office announced that there will not be a formal lighting ceremony this year for the Arkansas State Capitol. Instead, there will be a fireworks show on Saturday, Dec. 5, at 6 p.m. During the fireworks show, officials will active the Capitol’s lights.
This fireworks show will be open to the public, but everyone is requested to maintain social distancing and wear masks.
During the holidays, the State Capitol will be open to visitors wishing to see the festive decorations. On weekdays, the Capitol will be open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and on weekends, it will be open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. However, it will be closed on Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day.
