When considering a facility for long-term care or short-term rehabilitation services, families want the best they can get for their loved ones, and they have to look no further than Superior Health and Rehab in Conway. With lush grounds, Bahama-style shutters and a well-appointed interior, the expansive facility looks like a destination resort.
“We shy away from saying state-of-the-art, because everybody says that, but in 34 years in this field, I’ve never seen anything like this,” says Vickey Kirkemier, Superior Health and Rehab’s manager. “We’re offering a unique alternative to long-term care. We have listened to what the community has said that they’re looking for and that’s what we’ve offered here. It’s very unique, very upscale.”
Patient privacy was a major factor in the design and layout of the facility. Superior, which opened in late April, features 94 private and 12 semi-private rooms, each with all the furnishings provided and modern amenities, including vaulted ceilings, a flat-screen television, free Wi-Fi, a private bathroom and high-end furnishings. It was designed with multiple common areas and conference rooms for visits and parties. The hallways are wide and bright, lit with brass and crystal sconce lighting. Dining areas feature tray ceilings, rich, darkly-stained wood wainscoting and suspension lighting with shades that look like a golden bowl of laurel leaves.
Kirkemier says the focus on private rooms allows opportunities for mingling and activities with the ability for individuals to go to their own space and have time to themselves. Asemiprivate room, she says, is a perfect opportunity for families that have a mother and a father who might want to stay together. Instead of having to splitting off into two bedrooms, they can use one side as a living room.
“As an industry, we want to be successful,” she says. “We want to listen to people, and we respond. I feel like this building represents the things that people were looking for. Long-term care has changed. It’s not so institutional. I think it’s much more personal. And I think that’s what this is. It’s a more personal experience.”
Superior Health and Rehab will host a grand opening celebration and open house on Friday, May 17, from 3 to 7 p.m. Appetizers and drinks will be served after the ribbon cutting, and staff will provide tours of the building
