All of the Susan G. Komen offices in Arkansas will be closing in 2020.
The organization’s national headquarters is restructuring the organization to become a unified entity called “One Komen.” According to a news release, the breast cancer nonprofit is aiming to centralize shared services in order to adapt to new economic realities.
As a result, the organization will be closing multiple Komen Arkansas affiliate offices. The Texarkana and Jonesboro offices are slated to close on July 3, while the Little Rock office will remain open through September. There is also a Komen Ozark affiliate, based in Springdale. Once the offices are closed, they will be incorporated into One Komen.
“Susan G. Komen is not leaving Arkansas but adapting to meet the current economic realities and updating mission delivery through modern means, such as technology driven telehealth, a centralized helpline, treatment assistance and patient navigation solutions,” the news release says.
Arkansas is not only in the closures. All of the affiliates across the United States will be closed.
“In this increasingly interconnected world, Komen believes it is less important to have a physical location than the ability to meet people where they live and where they access care. Susan G. Komen believes where you live should not determine whether you live.”
In addition, the organization has cancelled multiple Komen events scheduled for fall 2020. These events include the Texarkana Race for the Cure, Northeast Arkansas Race for the Cure, Arkansas MORE THAN PINK Walk and Runway for the Cure.
