Mango Habanero Chicken Taco
If you’re looking for a quick, flavorful bite, there’s no beating a fast food taco. And Tacos 4 Life crafts one of the best ones around – the mango habanero chicken taco.
Filled with grilled chicken and good-size cubes of pineapple, which are firm but still tender, along with cabbage, pico de gallo, and the key mango habanero salsa, this taco hits a lot of flavor profiles. You get a nice mix of sweet, heat and savory in this taco, but it’s not hot, if you’re not into that kind of thing.
Opening up the taco, I was immediately struck by the brightness of the ingredients. With the yellow of the pineapple cubs and the subdued red of the pico de gallo and green of the cabbage, it’s a good-looking dish.
With so many ingredients in it, you’d expect everything to be a little muddled, but it isn’t. Everything plays a part, with the chicken forming the base, the pineapple giving that bright kick and the cabbage and pico providng the savory taste.
The real stars for me, though, were the cotija cheese and the mango habanero sauce. Each bite I took had a little of the white flakey cheese, giving it a salty taste that was a great compliment to the sweetness of the pineapple. On the first bite, I didn’t get the mango habanero sauce, but the second bite, I definitely did. First, I got the flavor, which is fantastic, and then I got the heat, which is pretty minimal.
The taco usually comes with avocado, which might add a nice cool element to the taco and the mango habanero sauce, but I had it taken off, because life is too short to eat avocados.
I would recommend getting a few of these, although if you have a limited appetite, one could fill you for a while.
