Taco Tuesday: Russellville’s Taco Vill’a
It’s that time of year when recent high school graduates pack up all the dorm “necessities” they’ve purchased over the summer and make the big move to college. Walking up and down flights of stairs carrying saucer chairs, TVs and awkwardly shaped lamps in the Arkansas heat is never a favorite activity, but those strenuous steps are a big moment for students and guardians alike. After hours of hauling and rearranging furniture, stomachs tend to grumble and feet beg for rest, which means that lunch is in order. Students starting at or returning to the Arkansas Tech University campus are in luck because there is a local favorite that is not only tasty but, most importantly, affordable, too.
Taco Vill’a, a tiny restaurant on East 4th Street, can often be found with lines out the door trying to order any of the favorite meals on the menu. The restaurant serves burritos, enchiladas and nachos, but given that today is, thankfully, Taco Tuesday, the restaurant’s soft taco is the feature.
There aren’t many varieties of tacos available at the restaurant, which usually means that the tacos they do have are so good there doesn’t need to be any others. The classic soft taco is full of ground beef, cheese, lettuce and tomato served inside a flour tortilla. Simple in ingredients, the taco does what a taco should: satisfy.
The tortilla holds the heaping portion of ground beef beautifully and has the perfect ratio of softness to chewiness to counteract the textures of the taco. The ground beef is well-seasoned for those looking for some flavor but not a lot of heat. However, if you are looking for a little more spice, Taco Vill’a has a signature hot sauce that will do the trick.
If you’re taking the whole family out or if you’re a college student living paycheck to paycheck, Taco Vill’a has the meal and the atmosphere for everyone.
