A trio of tasty tacos? Yes please! The Tacos Cancun at Diablos Tacos and Mezcaleria blesses you with a choice of three shrimp tacos, three mahi mahi tacos or three scallop tacos. I went in for the shrimp, though I’m sure the other seafood options are just as delicious.
The tacos arrived dressed to the nines in bright mango sauce on top of fresh lettuce and a sprinkle of cilantro. The shrimp absolutely filled each corn tortilla and the color hinted that the shrimps may have been lightly breaded before cooked.
An almost tropical scent filled the air with the chunks of fragrant mango in Diablos sauce. Even though the night was crisp and no palm trees awaited me outside, I almost believed I was at a resort about to return to warm sunshine.
Each bite of the tacos had a mixture of sweet and savory – the mango sauce carried most of the sweetness in its natural fruity flavor, but the shrimp also had a sweeter taste than I was expecting. Some spice came through in the sauce, contrasting its sweeter fruity components in an exciting way.
I’m a huge fan of corn tortillas because I love the flavor it adds and the texture, and the tortillas once again did not disappoint with the Tacos Cancun! The delicate texture of the tortillas paired with the hearty filling of shrimp, lettuce and chunks of mango really brought together all of the greater things in life.
Tacos tend to be messy in nature, and I have yet to master eating one without losing a few insides. However, what I did lose to gravity in this meal only made for what felt like a few more chances to enjoy the delicious ingredients.
With three overflowing tacos, there’s definitely enough to share or save for another day – or don’t share and don’t save, it’s up to you!
