This week’s Taco Tuesday brought AY About You to a Central Arkansas favorite: Taqueria El Palenque. If you haven’t heard about this little treasure, check out its location on North Rodney Parham and try, just try, to find an available parking spot — odds are you’ll have to jump the curb and park in the grass. Choosing one item from the large menu of delicious dishes is almost impossible, but the Tacos de Alambre stood out as the taco plate I needed to get my hands on.
This masterpiece of a meal consists of three tacos filled with grilled steak, bacon, bell peppers, onions and my personal favorite ingredient, cheese. Held inside made-from-scratch soft corn tortillas, the flavor combinations were a match made in heaven. The steak — the foundation of the taco — was seasoned enough to make it exciting, but not enough to overwhelm the other components. The smoky flavor of the bacon came through followed by the bright flavors of the bell peppers and onions. All of this goodness was held together by the almighty cheese. Sides of salsa rojo and salsa verde came with the tacos, and whichever your poison may be, both were great additions to the dish.
Driving up to the restaurant tucked away next to a strip of businesses, newcomers may not be prepared for the delicious food that lies inside. There are multiple varieties of tacos, fajitas, traditional recipes and signature dishes waiting for the next lucky person to hop the curb and elbow inside the doors of Taqueria El Palenque.
