This week’s Taco Tuesday features Tacos Atilano, the food trucks that are serving up Central Arkansas’ most authentic Mexican food.
When Serginho Atilano began Tacos Atilano food truck, he wanted to bring the street tacos he missed from his visits to Mexico growing up.
“When I would go to Mexico in the summers, the number one thing I wanted was the food,” Atilano says. “I dreamed about that food.”
His dream of bringing authentic street tacos to Arkansas came to life in 2017, when Tacos Atilano opened as a food trailer in Conway. Since then, he has expanded to two full-sized food trucks in Little Rock and North Little Rock. For many customers, Tacos Atilano offers the only food in Central Arkansas that reminds them of home.
“We don’t do the Tex-Mex thing, so no lettuce and no sour cream,” Atilano says. “People come by and say this is the closest thing to Mexico that they can get.”
What makes the food authentic? First, all of Tacos Atilano’s food comes from Mexico.
“Our produce and our meats come from Mexico. Even the limes and the cilantro,” Atilano says.
All of their tacos are served on corn tortillas, and the meat, after arriving from Mexico, is prepared to perfection. Some of their best meats, according to Atilano, include the suadero, which is beef brisket, carne asada, and al pastor. Each of their meats can be ordered as a taco, and the truck offers a popular combination meal with your choice of three tacos with a side of rice and beans.
If you’re not in the mood for tacos, Tacos Atilano has plenty of other options. Any of their meats can be ordered as quesadillas, burritos, or tortas, which are sandwiches also filled with beans, cilantro and onion. Tacos Atilano also has three salsas that customers can add to their meals: red tomatillo, green tomatillo and avocado salsa.
Tacos Atilano’s two trucks generally stay in their North Little Rock and Little Rock locations, but they are hoping to expand. Atilano has recently been in Ohio on the hunt for a new truck, which he says has to match the two currently in service. Although he’s not sure where their next location will be, Atilano hints that he’s currently looking at locations in Maumelle and Sherwood.
