Theater is making a comeback in Arkansas with the return of the Arkansas Repertory Theatre’s 2021 “The Rep Outdoors” series.
During this series, the Rep will present two full productions and a concert performance. The full productions will be Marie & Rosetta and Primating, and the concert performance will be a production of The Fantasticks.
Telling the story of Arkansas native Sister Rosetta Tharpe, Marie & Rosetta will be performed at War Memorial Park from July 13-August 1. Primating, a romantic comedy in an African safari camp, will have its world premiere at the Little Rock Zoo and will be performed August 10-29.
A free concert performance, The Fantasticks will be performed at Murray Park on Sunday, Oct. 3.
“If the pandemic has taught us anything, it’s how much we all crave being out in the world, and sharing experiences with our families, friends, and neighbors,” The Rep executive artistic director Will Trice said in a statement. “That’s exactly what live theatre provides, and these immersive productions give us the chance to enjoy our city’s beautiful community spaces in a whole new way.”
Series tickets for both Marie & Rosetta and Primating will go on sale on June 1. Individual tickets for the two productions will go on sale July 1. Starting May 24, Rep patrons who donated their ticket value to cancelled 2020 productions will have an advance pre-sale period.
