For this week’s Thirsty Thursday, AY About You sits down with Lexi Blade, daughter of Cathy Caver, who is the owner of Splash Wine Bar in Hot Springs.
When well-known business woman Cathy Caver purchased the old building on Ouachita Avenue 6 years ago, she had a vision. The building was built in 1903 and still stands there today with original ceilings, brick walls and stained glass.
Splash Wine Bar was initially an afterthought, as Caver was building her second location for Chrysalis Day Spa. But while making wine with her friends next door at Barrels Unlimited, the idea of a wine bar struck. Caver wanted to create a fun and classy environment for the city that she loves.
Today, Splash Wine Bar has been open for almost two years, and is thriving in the heart of Hot Springs. Blade, Caver’s oldest daughter, recently purchased Barrels Unlimited, which will soon be renamed to ‘Corked’ next door with friend Joy Hayes. They plan to integrate the two businesses to continue to make new wine for Splash as well as other businesses and establishments in Hot Springs.
Splash Wine Bar offers a wide selection of wine, beer and liquor. The wine bar is home to over 50 different wines, including wine made in house, a broad selection of beer, and many different specialty martinis and mixed drinks.
Blade shares that the customer favorite is Splash Peach Wine. The drink is the perfect mix of tangy and sweet, and is described as juice-like and refreshing.
“I’m not a fan of sweet wines myself, however, this wine is to die for,” Blade declares. “Our visitors also love our large charcuterie boards that come with a large selection of meats, cheeses, fruits, nuts and dips.”
For the staff at Splash, a majority of favorite concoctions can be found on the specialty drink menu. One beverage, the “Oh Joy”, tastes like coconut and summer time. The “Sassy Cathy” is a mix of prosecco and cherry vodka, while the “Sexy Lexi” is a cherry and cranberry limeade.
Splash Wine Bar has a ladies’ night every Wednesday that includes a half off special on all wines and select liquor by the glass. They also offer happy hour Thursday and Friday from 4 P.M. to 7 P.M.
But the creativity at Splash knows no bounds.
“We are continuously coming up with new and fun drinks for our guests,” Blade says. “We like to add dry ice, glitter, gummies, and more to make the picture perfect drink.”
In a city as unique as Hot Springs, it should come as no surprise that Splash Wine Bar is also unique. The family-owned wine bar is passionate about the people of Hot Springs and the tourists that come and visit.
“We make a wide range of wine right next door, our atmosphere is unbeatable with a large patio and fire pits that our guests love,” Blade says. “It is the perfect hangout spot with all of your closest friends or a classy establishment for a date night.”
