For this week’s Thirsty Thursday, AY About You sits down with Ethan Avanzino with The Wanderoo Lodge and Gravel Bar.
The Wanderoo Lodge and Gravel Bar’s history dates back to 1929. The Gravel Bar is the on-site restaurant and bar that opened in 2018, serving lodge guests, locals and folks just passing through the best flatbread pizzas, gourmet sandwiches and incredible salads in town. Located in the home of the original property owners, the Gravel Bar is considered to be a home away from home for many folks – with bartenders and fellow customers who know your name and drink of choice by the end of your stay.
The Gravel Bar offers a diverse selection of draft and bottled beer, wine and hard liquor, along with Coca-Cola products, coffee, iced tea and seasonal drinks if alcohol isn’t your thing.
Avanzino highlights some of the customer favorites. “Our customers’ favorite drink is any one of the locally brewed IPAs on tap,” he says. “Our Meat Fest flatbread pizza and Jalapeno Turkey Melt gourmet sandwich are guaranteed to satisfy your hunger.”
Of course, the staff at the Gravel Bar has their own favorite selections as well.
“Our staff’s favorite drink is Jameson, and their favorite meal is the roast beef and cheddar with a side of potato salad,” Avanzino says. “We personally think our potato salad is the best in town… and if you don’t believe us, you’ll just have to come in and try it.”
At the Gravel Bar, chefs and bartenders are empowered and encouraged to be creative, so the specials change daily. “We do our best to post our daily specials on social media to let everyone know what’s being served up outside of our normal menu.”
Several things make the Wanderloo Lodge and Gravel Bar stand out. “We’re the only outdoor adventure lodge in Eureka Springs with an on-site restaurant and bar. In the warmer months, Float Eureka, a kayak and standup paddle board rental spot, and Ozark Mountain Zip Line Tours are a stone’s throw away from the property,” Avanzino explains. “On weekends throughout the year we have live music from a diverse group of musicians from around the region. Live music and other events are always posted on our Facebook account. We’re so fortunate for the tourists that visit us and so thankful for our locals that keep us afloat in the winter months.”
