May is quickly hopping toward us which means Toad Suck Daze is almost upon us. However, unlike past years where the festival was held for three days the first weekend of May, Toad Suck Daze 2021 has been spread out through six weeks of jumping fun.
For their 40th anniversary, Toad Suck Daze is looking forward to once again hosting in-person events this year for the community to see one another and celebrate the cause behind the toads.
Each year, the festival dedicates itself to education. Since 1985, Toad Suck Daze has been awarding scholarships, scholarship endowments and preschool funding. The festival also gives back to the hosting community of Conway through contributing funds to projects in downtown.
Admission to the many, many festival activities is free, with the exception of the Live Concert in June. Get ready for all the community has in store and hop to it!
Schedule of Events:
- Airplane Parade
When: April 30, 2021 4pm -7pm
Where: Conway Airport, TGI Friday’s and visible in the sky around Conway
What: Partnered with the City of Conway and Lollie Bottoms Pilot Association, Toad Suck Daze is bringing back the popular Airplane Parade from the 2020 festival. Designated view spots will be set up, but don’t worry if you can’t make it out and you live in the area. The beauty of spectacles in the sky is that you can see it from the comfort of your backyard.
- Taste of Toad Suck
When: Every Friday in May 2021 (May 7, 14, 21 and 28)
Where: Rogers Plaza, Downtown Conway
What: Various food vendors will be set-up in downtown Conway every Friday in May from 11am to 7pm. All the Toad Suck Daze staples (corn dogs, turkey legs, chicken-on-a-stick, funnel cakes, fried pickles, etc.) Different vendors will be at the location each week, so the menu will change from Friday to Friday.
When: May 8, 2021 9am-3pm
What: Through a partnership with Acxiom, the Museum of Discovery and the Conductor, Toad Suck Tinkerfest returns for some hands-on educational activities for the kids. The different activities and stations will incorporate elements of the STEAM curriculum (science, technology, engineering, art and math) and help tie in the overall mission of promoting educational efforts in the community. Advance registration is recommended as the number of attendees will be limited for social distancing.
- World Championship Toad Races
When: May 13, 2021 4pm-6pm
Where: Corner of Parkway and Main Street, Downtown Conway
What: The famous toad races will off course commence for the 2021 string of events. The Toad Master will start the festivities with the V.I.T. (Very Important Toad) Race followed by races open to the public. Registrations are encouraged, but walk-in toads are welcome as well. In addition to the race will be the Jump for Education Race that highlights the winners of local elementary school toad races. Every elementary school student in Faulkner County will be granted a Toad Toter from their school.
Racers may bring their own toad or a toad can be provided at the race. The Conway Area Chamber of Commerce will be accepting toads the week of May 10. All toads will be returned to their natural environments following the races.
- Nature and Science Exhibit
When: May 19, 2021 3pm-7pm
Where: 355 Ledgelawn Drive Conway, AR
What: In partnership with the Arkansas Game & Fish Commission, Little Rock Zoo and Museum of Discovery, the exhibit began in 2020 as a drive-thru event. For 2021, the Nature and Science Exhibit will be available for attendees to walk through and learn about the animals with a closer look (at a distance that’s still safe for the animals).
- Boom Art with Arkansas PBS
When: June 5, 2021 10am-2pm
Where: PBS Plaza, University of Central Arkansas
What: The community is invited to show off their artistic skills by collaborating on a 12×30 foot Toad Suck Daze mural. Other activities will be going on throughout the day along with the chance to meet Croaker, Dazey and Clifford the Big Red Dog.
- Live Concert
When: June 11, 2021 7pm
Where: University of Central Arkansas Farris Center
