Heralding the start of summer, Memorial Day weekend is the first chance many get to enjoy some rest and relaxation. This year, there are numerous fun activities around Arkansas on Memorial Day weekend. We picked 10 of the top events that you should check out. The Rail Yard in Little Rock is hosting an all-day food truck party on Saturday, May 25th. Food trucks will include Count Porkula, Say Cheese Food Truck and Joyful Baking Co. among others. Come out to enjoy live music by five different artists and great food.
If you’re an outdoors type, Kyle’s Landing Campground’s float trip would be a perfect Memorial Day getaway. Bring your camping gear and plenty of food and beverages and enjoy the beautiful sights of the Buffalo National River.
Join Fleet Feet in Little Rock for their annual pancake cook-off and fun run. The proceeds from the race will go to Team RWB, an organization that works to enrich the lives of our veterans.
The Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art will host the Wall That Heals throughout Memorial Day weekend. It is a three-quarter scale replica of the Vietnam War Memorial and features the names of 3 million veterans and 58,000 service men and women who gave their lives in Vietnam. The exhibit will be set up at the Buckyball Field and will include a mobile education center. Admission is free to the public.
Toltec Mounds has a great program for kids happening on Saturday, May 25. Kids ages 15 and under can learn about the techniques used by the Plum Bayou people as well as make their own cane pole and cast lines. A reservation is required to attend.
Cool Pool in Fairfield Bay, Arkansas will be the spot for family fun on Saturday, May 25th. There will be fun family yard games like horseshoes, volleyball and cornhole as well as a pickleball tournament.
The Arkansas Travelers will kick off a series with the Springfield Cardinals on Thursday, May 23 at Dickey-Stephens Park, and it will continue throughout the weekend. There is a great promotion every night, like Bark in the Park on Thursday and Kids Run the Bases on Sunday. A Traveler’s game is always great family fun.
Little Rock’s water park, Wild River Country, will the opening for the summer on Memorial Day weekend. To say thank you, all active duty members of the Armed Forces as well as veterans will get into the park for free on Monday, May 27. Families will also enjoy a discounted admission fee.
The annual Memorial Day Dance in the City Park in Greers Ferry is always a good time. Come out on Saturday, May 25 and enjoy the band, Drasco as you dance the night away. There will be food available for purchase, and there is no charge to dance.
End your weekend with a spectacular fireworks display over Hot Springs’ Lake Hamilton. The show starts at dark on Sunday, May 26. The show is free to the public, and the display will be synced with the music on radio station 97.5 FM.
