Every now and again, we like to shake things up at AY About You. This week, AY Publisher Heather Baker is taking a new friend on the road with her for the latest Bucket List trip. And it’s going to be a trip to remember.
Baker is taking KARK host Hilary Hunt with her to one of the best pizza spots in the state: U.S. Pizza Co.
“We have two of my favorites, Hillary and U.S. Pizza on Chenal,” Baker says.
“It’s one of my favorite, too. I said, ‘You’re going to U.S. Pizza? Heather, I’m going with you because this girl’s hungry, and I’m going to drink some house dressing and eat that fresh pizza,’” Hunt says.
Established in 1972, U.S. Pizza has steadily grown in reputation over the decades. The restaurant has won awards for best pizza, best salad, best beer and even best patio. It’s a pizza joint that has to be experienced, and Baker and Hunt are up for the challenge!
Mark Lukas, a U.S. Pizza owner, is getting everything ready for them ahead of their visit. “We’re excited today to have Heather and Hillary here. We’re going to get started on some of our world famous pizzas for you,” he says.
Some of the pizzas he’s sending out include the Judy’s Favorite, which features roasted turkey, marinated artichoke hearts, fresh spinach, garlic, olive oil and Roma tomatoes; the Sunday Warrior, which features eggs, Canadian bacon, Anaheim peppers, spicy tomatoes and green bell peppers with cheddar and mozzarella; and the buffalo chicken pizza which features a base of spicy Frank’s Red Hot Buffalo Sauce and the creamy Italian house dressing topped with fajita chicken, mozzarella and pepper jack cheeses.
“I just love this place. I can’t get enough of it,” Hunt says.
Baker starts out with the buffalo chicken pizza, which she specifically requested for the trip. After all, it’s her favorite! “This is some of my favorite pizza. This my all-time – this is the chicken buffalo pizza. There’s nothing better than that to dunk in the house dressing,” Baker says.
While she’s going for the buffalo chicken, Hunt takes a different approach. She takes a slice of Sunday Warrior pizza, one of U.S. Pizza’s brunch options. “I know that you’re a big dinner pizza girl, but I’m a big brunch pizza girl. What you may not know about U.S. Pizza is they have a killer brunch. This is the Sunday Warrior. It is breakfast in a pizza,” Hunt says.
Not only does U.S. Pizza offer brunch, but they offer lunch specials every day. From Monday through Friday, you can drop in from 10:30 a.m. through 3 p.m. to grab one of the restaurant’s delicious daily specials.
When you do drop by, you can do so in style. After all, the atmosphere – and its patio – is a major part of U.S. Pizza’s charm. “One of the things that I love about U.S. Pizza when I moved to Arkansas was their patio. You won’t find a restaurant with a better patio,” Hunt says. “Can you imagine this place on game day? It is probably rocking.”
U.S. Pizza doesn’t just have good pizza or a good location. It’s the whole package. It has “the food, the atmosphere, the house dressing,” as Baker says. “You need to come in, go through the drive-thru, sit on the patio, sit inside. It’s such a great time,” she says.
