There are nearly 5,000 children in Arkansas’ foster care system today, and 375 of them are waiting to be adopted into a loving forever family. Join The Call, Immerse, Project Zero and many more as they come together to help these waiting children at the 2019 Walk for the Waiting.
Walk for the Waiting is the joint effort of three Arkansas ministries focused on helping the children in the foster care system and the families that care for them. With a goal of $80,000 in its first year, the event raised more than $250,000 and featured more than 800 walkers from nearly 70 local churches.
Now in its sixth year, the goal has been set at $300,000, and they are well on their way. You can help organizers by becoming a sponsored walker in this year’s event which will be held the morning of May 4, at Little Rock’s War Memorial Stadium.
We envision a future for every waiting child beyond their current circumstances or past abuse and are working toward a day when there are “NO WAITING CHILDREN” in Arkansas. There is a need for 2,000 more foster families. Because of the shortage of families, nearly 200 teens will “age out” of the system this year and enter into adulthood without having found a family to support and encourage them.
Not everyone is called to foster or adopt, but we can all do something… walk, raise funds or donate! For more information on becoming a sponsored walker or to make a gift to improving the lives of these modern-day orphans, please log on to walkforthewaiting.org, and help us lay a foundation for impactful service to these children.
