Fireworks will blast over the Arkansas River on the Fourth of July, and the best seat in the house will be at the Pops on the River Watch Party. And this party? It’s taking place aboard a submarine – the USS Razorback, which served during World War II and during the Cold War. The watch party is $10 per person and food and drinks will be available for purchase. Children five and under are free.

Enjoy a traditional Independence Day at the Historic Arkansas Museum. There will be live music, dancing, crafts, games and more. This free event will also feature complimentary refreshments, including Loblolly Creamery ice cream.

What: 6thAnnual Cardboard Boat Races
Where: Lake Willastein Park
When: 2-7:30 pm
Using just cardboard, duct tape and odds-and-ends, teams must make a boat to sail on Lake Willastein. It must be quick and be able to carry passengers.
Teams are made up of two people. There are three divisions – Youth, Family (one adult and one youth) and Corporate (two adults).
Awards will be given out for fastest boat, team spirit, “Sinking with Style” and more.
The theme this year is “Fly Like an Eagle.”
Registration is $25 for a two-person team.
There will also be a parade, concessions, games and more.

The Arkansas Shakespeare Theatre is bringing the Bard’s classic play “The Comedy of Errors” to Conway at the Reynolds Performance Hall.

Visit the Little Rock Zoo this week to meet some of the zoo’s most special animals – from their bald eagle to the big cats. There will be fun activities and a chance to chat with one of the zookeepers. Admission is $12.95 for adults aged 13 and over, and $9.95 for children ages three and up. Children under 2 are free.

Double, double toil and trouble! Something wicked is coming this way. The Arkansas Shakespeare Theatre is staging the Scottish Play this Friday. Get your tickets, which range from $28-34.

There will be a popsicle and cookie social at the splash pad at War Memorial Water Park.
Arkansas Down Syndrome Network is hosting the event. It is a group for Arkansas families who have a child or loved ones with Down syndrome.
Bring your swimsuit, sandals, towels and chairs.
Bring a cooler with some lunch. There will be a picnic!
The splash pad has nooks and crannies to climb on, along with fountains, mist and water to play in.
The splash pad is open through October, from 7am-8pm daily.

Come dressed as your favorite princess for a magical party. This family-friendly event for kids will feature crafts, stories and more. It will take place in the Youth Services section of the Main Library’s third floor.

What: Film screening: “Swingin’ Timber”
Where: Mosaic Templars Cultural Center
When: 3 pm
Learn more about the Negro Baseball Leagues as they existed in the early 20thcentury this Saturday. “Swingin’ Timber” tells the story of the Claybrook Tigers, a team formed in Claybrook, Arkansas. This screening is free.

Donate blood this weekend to benefit the Arkansas Blood Institute! If you donate, you’ll score two free tickets to a Travs game, a free shirt and one free entry to the Little Rock Zoo.
