It’s National Bagel Day! A day filled with carbs that can be savory or sweet. But the day ends early. That’s because the two bagel places in the state that we know about (true bagel places where they boil the bagels the old fashioned way) close right after lunch. So if you’re in Maumelle or in Bentonville, grab a dozen and have them slice them right up.
Our recommendation locally is MorningSide Bagels on Maumelle Blvd. The everything bagel is a best seller and is adored by everyone! But if you want a sweet bagel, the chocolate chip and cranberry almond are great. Buy their freshly whipped cream cheese to go with the bagel. They close at 1 p.m.
In Northwest Arkansas, go to the locations of Ozark Mountain Bagel Co. off the Bentonville Square. Oh my. I have been known to leave central Arkansas to drive there just to buy a dozen (they are in my freezer now). They will slice them and also sell you some of their freshly whipped cream cheese. The spinach Parmesan is a winner, and their bagels & lox is perfection. It’s a reminder of those New York bagels you’ve gotten on a trip to the Big Apple. They also close at 1 p.m., and they actually have two locations.
