An Undercurrent of Murder
Looking for that next great read? AY has you covered.
Joe David Rice, our resident Arkansas expert and travel editor, has written his first novel, An Undercurrent of Murder: A Randy Lassiter & Leslie Carlisle Mystery. Set in the Ozark Mountains, the novel centers on Randy Lassiter and his brother-in-law Dr. Gib Yarberry, who go on a male-bonding trip along the Buffalo National River, only to discover a dead man beneath the highest bluffs in the Ozarks as well as a waterproof container floating in the river.
From there, it’s all downhill, as criminals start gunning for Randy, Gib and Leslie Carlisle.
While this is Rice’s first novel, he’s no stranger to the pen. He has written and published the two-volume Arkansas Backstories – sections of which appear monthly in AY. Rice is also a wandering correspondent for AY, checking out and writing about the hidden gems and towns that have been overlooked.
You can read the first chapter of the Arkansas-set thriller here.
